I came into teaching later in life and I find that the opportunity to learn, grow, love and exchange knowledge and experiences with young minds is the most precious gift I have known.
Michiko sensei is the Japanese kindergarten/first grade teacher here at McDonald International School. Here is some more about her!
Michiko sensei grew up in Japan and has now been teaching for 17 years (since 2006)! She taught three years in Japan then taught in a high school near Banbridge for one year and then she came to McDonald and has been teaching here ever since. Michiko sensei says her favorite part of teaching is when she gets to watch the kids learn something new and understand a lesson. It makes her love her job when she sees the kindergarteners playing and laughing together. I asked her what engaged her in her teaching career, and she said that when she learned more about an individual person and explored their interests and how they learn, it made her love to be a teacher.
In Michiko sensei’s free time she likes to backpack and ski with her family. She says she would like to start scuba diving again. She also used to do art, but she says she has not done it in a while.
Another thing Michiko sensei wanted to share was a time when her kids were 3, 8, and 12, they went backpacking all around the world! She said it was an amazing experience that connected herself and her kids.
Michiko sensei is a great teacher. She is fun, engaging, and amazing with kids. I really loved her when I was in Kindergarten, and I loved being her student.
